Many amateurs showed up to join and compete in a multi-level tournament. The winner was to take home treats and lots of prizes.<\/p>\n<p>Tennis has its origins in a 13th-century French handball game called\u00a0<i>jeu de paume,<\/i>\u00a0or \u201cgame of the palm,\u201d from which developed an indoor racket-and-ball game called\u00a0<i>real,<\/i>\u00a0or \u201croyal,\u201d tennis.
